The year 2024 marks the 100th birthday of Ludmilla Chiriaeff, founder of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and the École supérieure. After living a life worthy of a novel, the grande dame of dance has left Quebec society an inescapable legacy.
Ludmilla Chiriaeff left behind not only institutions, but also dancers, choreographers and managers who carry on her vision in their own way.
Like Anik Bissonnette, who was a principal dancer with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and is now Artistic Director of the École supérieure de ballet du Québec.
"For me, it's extremely important to continue what Ms. Chiriaeff has done," she says.
