Gaby Baars
Originally from the Netherlands, Gaby Baars studied at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam. He was a finalist in the 1989 Eurovision competition in Paris, and then in the Prix de Lausanne the following year.
Gaby Baars’ dance career begins with the Netherlands Dans Theatre where he has the opportunity to perform Jiri Kylián repertoire as well as works by choreographers such as Nacho Duato, Billy Forsyth and Ohad Naharin. He joins Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo in 1992 where he dances especially as soloist in works by Jean-Christophe Maillot, George Balanchine, Michel Fokine and Lucinda Childs. From 2003 to 2015, he holds the position of ballet master and assistant to Jean-Christophe Maillot thus giving him the privilege to stage his works for Pacific Northwest Ballet in Washington and for les Grands Ballets Canadiens à Montréal.
Since 2016, Mr. Baars teaches and choreographs for students attending the professional division of L’École supérieure. Many of his choreographies were presented such as Point-less at the salle Pierre-Mercure, Cendrillon, during a concert at the Maison symphonique de Montréal in collaboration with l’Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal, and Dans ma main, a pas de deux, at a gala in Germany highlighting the 30th anniversary of the bilateral relations between Quebec and Bavaria.
In 2021, Gaby Baars creates his first creation for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens entitled Règle 26 et ½. He still creates for L'École supérieure and choreographs Bright Grey for Corps de ballet 2022.
