Michelle Proulx

Passionate about ballet for over fifty years, Michelle Proulx has been immersed in the art of dance since childhood. First a scholarship student at Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and the National Ballet School in Toronto, she later performed with The National Ballet of Canada in several great classics, including Giselle, Swan Lake, La Bayadère, as well as Sir Frederic Ashton's masterpieces La Fille mal gardée and Les Deux pigeons. Rich in her experience in the queen city, she joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in 1979 where she shone in several outstanding roles in the works of George Balanchine. She also had the opportunity to work with renowned choreographers David Bintley, James Kudelka, Fernand Nault and Brian McDonald.

In 1988, she left her dance career as a demi-soloist, without abandoning the world of dance. Instead, she accepted, with her usual confidence, the responsibilities and challenges of artistic coordinator at Les Grands Ballets under the direction of Linda Stearns, Laurence Rhodes and Gradimir Pankov, until 2010. During this time, she worked with some of the world's greatest dance talents, including Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Hans van Manen, William Forsythe, Mats Ek, Jean-Christophe Maillot, Ohad Naharin, Christopher Wheeldon, Nils Christie, Edouard Lock, Peter Quanz and Mikhail Baryshnikov (White Oak Dance Project). With a long career punctuated by great moments, tours around the world and unforgettable encounters, she now wishes to actively contribute to the influence of dance by supporting and encouraging young dancers to blossom and achieve.

In 2012, she naturally joined the École supérieure de ballet du Québec's board of directors as an administrator and the École supérieure de ballet du Québec's foundation as secretary.
